Murari was a Crucial Film -Mahesh Babu
Mahesh Babu is busy with multiple projects presently shooting for Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu and an untitled movie directed by Sukumar. Talking about how he is in a happy place in his career right now, Mahesh Babu, says, “Over the years, with all the experience, I’ve become more mature about the subjects I pick. I have a better understanding of what works at the box office. Once the story is finalised, I surrender to the director and follow him. After that, my performances speak for themselves.”
So, has he arrived at a success formula of sorts? “No, I have no idea what exactly can be called a success formula. After Pokiri’s success, I thought that’s the formula that works and tried doing similar movies. And that didn’t work really. The only thing I have learnt over the years is that if you enjoy your work and put in the best efforts, it will show. If you follow this process, things work out. But if you go chasing a formula, success will elude you,” says the star, adding he doesn’t believe in “dream roles.”
“I don’t have any dream role. I give my 100% to every character I play and when the film clicks, it automatically becomes a dream role. I don’t believe in talking about such things while I am doing the film. People should talk about the character once the film releases,” he quips.
When asked what was his favourite role he said, “It has to be Murari. I watched that movie with my dad in a city theatre and once the film ended, he got emotional and tightly clasped my shoulders in reaction to my performance. That is one of my most cherished moments,” he says adding “It was a crucial film in my career.”
Talking about his future projects, Mahesh Babu, says, “I’m excited about my first multi-starrer. Both Venkatesh and I have shed our star images in this movie. Work has already begun on my Sukumar project too. After I complete that, I will be directed by Sreenu Vaitla again. Films with directors Paidipalli Vamsi and Puri Jagannadh are also lined up.”
When asked about his next movie with Krish, Shivam, touted to be Mahesh’s Tamil debut, he says, “We haven’t decided when to start yet. We haven’t taken a call on whether it’s going to be a bi-lingual yet.”
